Artober at Gallery Edit

Gallery Edit is participating in ARTober’s celebration of culture and the arts. ARTober, presented by CultureWorks, is a month-long series of events, collaborations, pop-ups, and experiences highlighting the arts and culture in Richmond and the Tri-Cities area.

Edit: Lineage Soft Opening

October 5 // 7:00-8:30

Join us in the gallery for a soft opening of our October exhibition, Edit:Lineage. This show will be a collaboration of multiple artists exploring the ideas of family, genealogy, and origin.

 

Edit: Lineage First Friday Reception

October 6 // 6:00-9:00

Come out to the First Friday art walk for the formal reception of Edit: Lineage, a show focused on family, genealogy, and origin. Refreshments will be served and Gallery staff will be present to discuss the art.

 

Haiku and Limerick Poetry Competition

October 12, 2017 // 7:00-8:30

You’re invited to submit your best prose to our first-ever poetry competition! Gallery Edit’s October exhibition is titled “Edit: Lineage.” We are accepting haikus and limericks centered on the same theme. All entries must be in standard haiku or limerick format and must be submitted by October 1, 2017. You may submit more than one poem for the competition. All ages are welcome to participate.

Finalists will be notified by October 5, 2017 whether their poem has been selected for the competition.

Participants in the final competition will be invited to read their work aloud at the event on Thursday, October 12 at 7:00 pm at Gallery Edit. Gallery Edit is located at 8 E Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219. Light refreshments will be served that evening, and there will be a prize for the best poem in each category.

Richmond Public Schools Student Pop-Up Show

October 19-31 // Opening reception October 19, 7:00-8:30

Gallery Edit is excited to showcase work by Richmond Public Schools students.  There will be three categories- Elementary, Middle, and High School.

Artwork must be created around the theme “Who is my neighbor?” and will be juried by our gallery staff. We are accepting submissions of 2D work in any medium, no larger than 3’x3′, no photography. 3D work will also be considered. The show is open to any student in the Richmond Public School System.

Each student may submit up to 3 digital images (pictures taken with a cell phone are acceptable) of work to be considered to art@reachthenations.org. All entries should include the student’s name, age, school, title of work, dimensions of work, and medium. Entries are due by October 5.

Students will be notified by October 9 as to whether their work was selected. Selected artwork must be brought to 8 E. Broad by October 16. Join us to view the artwork any time between 9:00 and 5:00, Monday through Friday October 19-31.
