This month at Gallery Edit, we’re featuring an “in house” piece of installation art designed and built by our very own Hillside staff and interns.
The “prayer loom” is a large wooden frame with hundreds of nails and about a mile of string.
At our opening (the first Friday of every month!), we welcomed dozens of people to come in and add a prayer to the loom by writing or drawing something.
Over the next month, our art will take new shapes as visitors and friends add their prayers.
Here’s a look at our statement that will hang in the gallery during this show:
“Your kingdom come, your will be done…
This is our prayer, handed down through centuries of tradition, given to the apostles by Jesus himself.
2000 years later, we’re still praying this.
Why? Because we (the people running this gallery and office) have experienced a kind of life-changing, soul-overhauling renewal through faith in Jesus Christ.
And it’s just too good not to share.
So we work hard to make sure that people in nations without access to the gospel get a chance to hear this good news. The gallery is one of the places we think great conversation about faith in Jesus can happen. So we pray. We pray for this idea of “art galleries for good” to change lives around the world. We pray for villages, cities, neighborhoods, schools, and governments to be transformed through a relationship with Jesus Christ. And we live toward the accomplishment of this prayer by going to those places where the need for the message is great.
Maybe you have a prayer too. Maybe it’s the same as ours. Or maybe it’s been a long time since you prayed at all. This could be good time to start. Leave a prayer in the wall, read one already woven into the web or talk to us about why we’re spending our time this way.
…on earth as it is in heaven.”
Visitors are also invited to light a prayer candle to represent a need they have or something/someone for whom they’re thankful.
The gallery is open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. Come by!
