Internship FAQ’s

 

 

 

That’s totally up to you! Graduates of the program are eligible for candidacy as team members in more than 30 countries. Most graduates join a ministry team in one of those places. Some graduates continue further schooling before going to the field, and others become engaged in mission mobilization ministries in their home countries.
The program runs for 9 months beginning in September. After the 9 month program there is an optional 3 to 6 month international externship working with one of our long term projects. The program follows a traditional university semester calendar for vacations and days off. The optional three month externship generally begins immediately following the 9 month program. We do offer an abbreviated internship program during the summer which runs from June to August and is planned around academic calendars.
Internship participants share apartments near our offices or are hosted in homes nearby. Participants who already live within driving distance of our offices at 8 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA can opt to be a commuting intern in our program. Interns participating in the 2017-2018 program will live in apartments directly above our office at 8 E. Broad St. in Richmond, VA. The guys share one apartment and the girls share another. It is dorm-style living. Residents of each apartment will work together to create a budget, shopping and cooking plan for meals. Married interns and families will arrange their own housing in the Richmond area.
We have placement opportunities in about 10 countries in South America, The Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Africa. You will choose where you want to go. During the first part of your training, we will begin to discuss, pray and decide together about the best place for you to go.
The residential internship program is $475 per month and this includes: housing, some basic staple groceries, curriculum materials and supplies. The commuting internship program is $125 per month and includes: curriculum materials and supplies. Interns raise support to fund their short-term trips and externships. Additional, personal spending money is necessary. We recommend at least $100/month for spending money. This includes money for groceries and other spending.
Hillside Missions Organization directly administers the training internship. Internship participants can pay monthly. Monthly payments for the internship should be made by the 1st day of every month. You can pay in cash at 8 E. Broad St., by check or online via credit card.

You’ll want to have additional money for groceries, personal supplies, and miscellaneous expenses. We recommend at least $100/month.
Yes! We encourage all internship applicants and accepted participants to visit before a commitment is made to the program. This also helps to ease some of the normal anxiety that accompanies involvement in new activities and communities. It is best to call or email ahead to arrange a visit.
If you have been accepted to  Hillside internship or training program, you will need to bring the following:

-Laptop
-Kindle or tablet
-All books (when available, please purchase Kindle editions) from the required reading list
-Twin-size sheets
-Blankets
-Pillow
-Towels
-Toiletries
-Casual dress for the office
-Formal attire for occasional events
-Spending money

Yes. As long as the work schedule doesn’t conflict with the internship schedule. The internship schedule is generally Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM. Keep in mind that there will be required reading and other homework to be done in the evenings and on weekends.
No. But it’s nice to have one if you can. If you are not coming with a car, you’ll probably want a bicycle. Richmond is a biking city!
