It has been over a year since we started The Love Your City project, and each week we go out on our block to scrape gum and clean the sidewalks.
We were out working the other week when one of our neighbors walked by. Rather than exclaim “What are you doing?” or “Why are you doing that?” as many had only months earlier, he remembered aloud, “Oh yeah, it’s Wednesday.”
When The Love Your City Project began, those living and working around us were astounded by the small, unexpected way we chose to care for our neighborhood. Now the initial surprise has faded and they recognize our care as something reliable and consistent.
Our goal is not to be subtle or efficient, but to grab people’s attention and engage in meaningful conversations. We want to actively love our neighbors and create a standard for care in our community.
